Dark garnet with tiny clear edges. Dirty funky rocky volcanic goodness, crisp and candy-bar fruited with sharp acidity and gorgeous tannins visible from beginning to end in classic Petite Sirah fashion.
This wine was made in 2009 before the Manton Valley AVA became recently official, hence the ‘California’ label. Large vineyards have been in production in this area since the late 70’s when the micro-climate was discovered. Today, there are probably 20 wineries in Manton, with Mt Tehama being one of the originals. This is tiny-production all organic and handmade Sierra Foothills stuff I wish I could share with all of you.
White-chocolate nose, with peach-pit and sultry apple-pie stuffing, clean and perfectly balanced in the mouth as teeth-wiping structure takes hold–the kind of stand-a-fork-in-it structure us old PS wonks love in our PS but with a brilliance of fruit and depth few today realize, especially at 13.2! Glorious patina of age taking hold and intensifying the beauty of this wine.
